Primary 6 trip to W5-Coding
30th Mar 2025
Primary 6 visited W5 for fun and interactive lessons all about Coding. They learned that coding is all about instructions-giving instructions to computers. To begin, the children were given verbal instructions to follow. They had to draw a path on squared paper and write instructions on to how to follow their paths-give directions. They then had to follow their partners instructions to create a path.
Next, we were very lucky to be one of the first classes to enjoy using Sphero Indi Robots-programmable cars. These were colour controlled and responsive. They had to figure out what each coloured tile made the car do and then follow coloured tile instructions and create a path for their Indie. The children said this was their favourite part of the trip!
The next session was using a BBC micro bit- tiny computers with 25 LEDs and inputs built in such as a compass, direction sensors and temperature sensors.
The children had lots of fun coding, adding letters, music and animations to their micro bit .The children learned how to create a radio string and received messages from Alana the teacher saying Primary 6L were the best. 😃
