P7 engineers!

Today we continued our study of bridge structures, looking at Viaduct Garabit / also designed by Gustav Eiffel.
This bridge uses the age-old arch structure to support a beam.
We experimented using paper beams and arches.
We found that reinforcing the thickness of the beam helped support a greater load.
Surprisingly, even just using a paper arch allowed QUADRUPLE the load (dice!) to be supported as the force of the load is dispersed through the arch shape.
