Exploring Victorian Inventions
P7 spent the day exploring aspects of Physics such as light and sound. They experimented with batteries, wires and bulbs to see if they could create simple circuits. Later they learned how the invention of the telegraph was essentially a giant circuit, which could transmit signals by sound.
They looked at the Victorian discovery of a light bulb, comparing the light emitted from a candle, a small bulb and a modern torch. They sent messages by Morse Code, using flashlights.
They looked at how sound travels in waves and felt the vibrations from the tuning fork. Finally they worked on string telephones to see if they could communicate across the playground! They learned how Alexandra Graham Bell combined his knowledge of electrical circuits and sound to create the first telephone.
Although we could only touch on each aspect, it certainly sparked some interest!
