Dead Sea Float
10th Apr 2019
Today we were challenged to try and prove that salt water is heavier than fresh water.
In our groups we were provided with:
- two eggs
- two containers with water
- salt
We poured salt into one of the containers and stirred to allow the salt to dissolve. We then placed the eggs in both of the containers. To our amazement the egg in the salt water floated, whilst the egg in the fresh water sank. Through a discussion, we discovered that this happened because salt water is more dense than the fresh water and so the weight of the egg does not have to push away as much water to make space, allowing it to float.
Using iPads we then worked in groups to find out about the Dead Sea.
