This week our classroom was transformed into a building site, as the boys and girls put all their learning into practice to construct our bridge for the W5 ‘A Bridge to France Celebration Day!’
We were amazed by the levels of teamwork, creativity and engineering as the children worked collaboratively in small groups to design and build a 1m bridge, displaying elements of bridge features that we had learned about throughout the project. The bridge was also required to be able to hold weights of more than 1kg without collapsing!
After many trials, tests and tribulations, we were left to decide between two fantastic bridges, only one of which we could enter into the final competition!
After a P7 year group vote, our winning bridge was chosen! It was decided that this bridge should be called Le Pont du St. Jean (St. John’s Bridge).
The P7 year group will now take this bridge to W5 to compete against other schools from all over Northern Ireland.
